Today saw our first meeting and it went well.
First up we decided it would be worthwhile to create an image board based around the mining theme. It actually proved a little tougher than expected, as once you've listed coal, a pick and shovel and a miner, there isn't much more to coal mining. But we persevered and created the following mood board.
An initial idea that has come from this is a Victorian themed newspaper look. The newspaper sample in particular provided a three page column look which is a design trend for 2009. Furthermore, we really liked the potential of the large iconic wheel which could be interpreted as a motion piece in Flash and have a pully lift as a vertical banner etc.
Next up we're doing market research of other museum type sites, then other sites we like analysing their visual designs, in addition to sourcing suitable typefaces in terms of commercial use etc. From this we are then making potential designs.
